Help us envision the new home for an eclectic artist community in a former MTA Bus Depot in the heart of Venice by providing an affordable housing master plan proposal and conceptual design for the Venice Art community. We will be going to VENTURA, CA, about an hour and a half north of Venice Beach for a precedent tour of artist housing. The site visit will provide an overview of the project and some discussion of task and team schedules. RSVP to our Facebook event here or go to www.oacla.org and click on "Get Involved" then choose "Venice Artist’s Colony".
It might have been 100 degrees but OACLA and local volunteers were super excited to come out to the Avalon Carver community Center to give back to the community. We spent the week stripping off the old wall finish and preparing the site for work. This weekend, we masked off the wall for the Mary B. Henry mural design. In addition, we cleared brought over pick axes and shovels to clear the existing planter of roots and trash, in order to plant and mulch the drought tolerant cacti and shrubs.
We’d like to thank local landscaping supplier Los Angeles Nursery for their generous donation of their plants.
Join us for some summer fun and outreach! We are looking for volunteers for our mural painting and planting project at Avalon Carver! The first phase is the 3rd weekend of July and you can help out for as long or as little as you like. We will be painting the first day from 9a - 4p and planting the second day at the same times. RSVP to our Facebook event here or click on "Get Involved" and choose "Avalon Carver Community Center - Mural Painting and Planting Day".
We are so excited to announce that we have received a $5,000 grant from the Fringe Foundation that will help fund our Avalon Carver Community Center project as well as educational events (like our Connecting LA panel discussion last year) for all of you! We are so grateful to The Fringe Foundation for believing in and supporting the work we do and we are looking forward to using these funds to help make positive change in our LA community!

Interested in joining our leadership team? It's a great way to volunteer on a more permanent basis, network, and learn more about the inner-workings of a non-profit organization. We are currently looking for 3 new coordinators: Events Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator, and Membership Coordinator. The coordinator role means you will be working under one of our directors, in this case the Marketing Director or Operations Director, in a specialized and specific capacity. If you are interested, please send us an email stating the role you are interested in and your qualifications to firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, if you want to meet us first and learn more about the roles, join us at our next happy hour!
